No. Austerity was always a political choice designed to neuter Labour at the ballot box and a very successful choice for Osborne, even if he did miss just about every Economic target he set himself while Chancellor. And we are not in a position to cut debt in a way that would make you happy, growth is still sluggish, all we can do is cut spending further and find ways to increase tax revenue (expect the sugar tax to extend from drinks to junk food).

Drill down into the spending cuts that have been pushed through Police Forces across the UK is what you need to do. If I remember correctly the Met lost just under 2,000 Officers in London from Central Government Cuts. And from what I've heard the Met has had to call in detectives from the City of London Police to help them investigate some of the latest murders in London. Which likely means the Met doesn't have enough detectives to investigate gang related crimes/violence. Without pulling Detectives off active investigations into terrorism etc.

Oh and as for cracking jokes about stabby immigrant toddlers ? Grow up already. This isn't something to make light of. If the Met has lost control of the Streets in London as some contend, I would expect things to get a lot worse as Summer approaches. Those riots early into the coalition Government, might turn out to a portent of what might be to come.

Would the crime info be from government statistics?

Lost control of the streets?

And you're telling me to grow up.

Was 2009 Britain a mad max-esque wasteland? Crime is significantly down since then.

We certainly can't make light of it especially if you live there!
Yesterday there were six stabbings in 90 minutes scattered over Greater London and another two men today at Croydon's Whitgift centre.

Yes, this has been going on for a while in our inner cities across Britain, and it has not made big news. It has now and should be news which is a good thing. Those in power are being put on the spot.

Explain how and why London Gangs are able to push drugs around the UK with seeming impunity. By loss of control I mean the Police not having the same level of community gathered intelligence about criminal activity before cuts to neighbourhood policing took hold. You need Police Officers to patrol areas, get to know local residents and build a picture of what's going on. No good holding pop events to ask Residents about the local area. The last uniformed Police Officers I saw were armed officers patrolling around the historic parts of Oxford.

Some types of Crime have been going down, while others have been edging up -
Violent crime rising, police figures suggest

I have friends in London and I'm aware of what's going on. Cracking jokes about stabby immigrant toddlers is immature at best.

It's long overdue that Theresa May is put on the spot for her record at the Home Office, Amber Rudd hasn't been in the job long enough to have had much of an impact yet.
A teenage boy got stabbed to death not too far from where I live recently and close to where my
nephew's primary school is located. Assumed to be drug related, had detectives knocking on doors as you'd expect all be it a few days later. And a teenager got stabbed after a fight broke out in the summertown part of Oxford (North Oxford). Oxford's always been on the violent side historically speaking. If you pay attention to local news, then this won't be much of a surprise about the rise in knife crime. It's likely only become a bigger issue now due to the nature and frequency of the recent murders in London, alongside Local Elections being around the corner.

It's about shortage of police, it's about poverty, and it’s about cuts to youth and community services. London and the rest of thecountry cannot be saved by the choices of the individual it needs backing and will from government. We are reaping what has been sown by disastrous cuts. You can't cut and cut and not expect any consequences. However, one thing is true ‘the many’ can surely dismiss the Tory party as being the party of Law and Order...

Why do I need to explain that? We weren't talking about drugs. But if we are, where is your evidence that drug crime is up since 2010?

I work in London and have friends there. Guess that puts me ahead in "links I have to London that are unrelated to crime stats" top trumps.

Crime down 35% while reducing budgets 18%. She also deserves credit for her work on modern slavery.

I don't think her record is under threat.

2017 saw a 13% rise in police recorded crime, part of a recognised increase in the overall volume of crime, per John Flatley of the ONS.
