Thanks, get it now.

My wife is a maths teacher and work load is getting close to breaking point.  Two extra desks and chairs appeared in her classroom recently without any explanation.  When she asked about it was told that all her class sizes would be increasing in September and some when she goes back after Easter.

That will take her class size upto 32, recommended maximum being 25.

Not only does it water down the tuition down but will add an additional hour per week of out of school work for her (marking, feedback, dealing with parents etc.).

She’d be the first to admit that some subject teachers have an easy time but from what I’ve seen I wouldn’t be a Maths teacher - phenominal workload and ever increasing pressure to do more because of the government focus to improve the numeracy skills of kids leaving school.

Cheers,

Nigel

I think he means killing people and getting away with it because of reduced policing.

There are many countries where a death penalty (or very harsh custodial sentances) do act as a deterrant.

I would rather the above than our current system with people running riot.

Prevention is better than cure and, severe penalties for committing crime will, eventually, bring the crime rate down.

In the USA research has shown that violent crime is lower in states that don't have the death penalty, which indicates the death penalty is not a deterrent.

However, in other countries the death penalty might act as a deterrent.

Could you list these (hopefully democratic) countries, along with measurable proof (like a ROI case for a product) of deterrence?

I would probably agree with anecdotal evidence that a Wahabbist dictatorship's use of shariah law is a strong deterrent.

Funnily enough I remember this being a big deal. Then we had migration at over 300,000 a year and then no one cared. Part of me wonders that perhaps the migration rate was going up at a rate of the population of a new city every year but we wasn't building a new city every year.

Minority ethnic pupils made up 71% of the increase in the number of pupils in state primary schools, according to the figures, with white British accounting for the remainder.

Not a footballer. Hmm.

London teenager fatally stabbed named as Israel Ogunsola

“Israel was just – he was a nice person,” said the sobbing 19-year-old, who gave her name as Petronel, as she stood by the police tape bisecting Morning Lane.

She had last seen him the previous day, when she learned he was back in London. “I hugged him, thinking that I might just see him again tomorrow.”

***************

Ogunsola had been charged with ABH, dangerous driving without a licence, having no insurance and being in possession of cannabis after an incident in Stevenage in November that left a police officer with a head injury.

Maybe it's the wrong prisons I've worked with, but cushy isn't a description I'd ever use. That said, from an outsider looking in, I'd rather be a prisoner than a guard these days.
