46 murders since the beginning of the year in London. The rate is on the rise and no one seems to know how to tackle it. The mayor is quiet... But action was taken in New York some years ago with a zero tolerance approach and it worked. Maybe he can learn some lessons.

The worse thing is, many of attacks are for trivial reasons and fairly random. But anyone out late at night is in danger.

We are the first to look and criticise America for their murder rate caused by gun ownership. Yet when it comes to our, mainly knife crime which is happening under our nose, we ignore it. That is up to now....we have overtaken New York.

Once again, we reap what we sow.

If I were Mayor and had the power, a zero tolerance approach to crime would be instigated right away.

Unfortunate, we're such a nanny state and are scared of offending anyone.   Pathetic jail sentences, human rights blah blah blah.

So, nothing will ever get done unless someone really important gets it.

Meh, nobody seems to give a **** so as long as it stays in London...

Nothing will get done unless someone important decides to fund it properly.

I think we need some perspective.

This is more about the success of New York than a failure in London.

The murder rate is less than 10 years ago, and the city is safer than then.

Of course we should not be complacent and the recent rise should be addressed. But there is no need for hysteria.

Although the current rate could be anomalous, the murder rate has jumped 40% in the last three years before this. There was a long downward trend but that has been reversed, and considerably so if the first three months prove not to be an anomaly.

It's fairly obvious why when you see certain parts of this city, and the increase in gang related knife crime.

Part and parcel of living in a big city. Maybe Khan would have been better putting 1.7m into tackling knife crime and acid attacks instead of his hate crime hub.

I hate it how nearly “all” side of the political spectrum seem focussed on scoring political points.

We must never forget that the person using that knife or gun has a choice. They are the ones doing this. They are the ones to blame.

When you say 'they', who do you mean?

If you know who they are would it not be a good idea to inform the police?

So banning hand guns and making gun laws stricter was a waste of time. It was the people's fault all along not the guns.
