Can you not understand that there are multiple offences going on in different communities all with different motives, we have to make distinct judgements and different action to prevent the abuse.
Take for example the celebrity or the MP/Councillor element of this, we need more oversight and transparency when these people of power have access to vulnerable young people under state protection. For the most part the victims of this particular group were care homes, hospitals and orphanages, where because of their status were given cart blanch access, even actual keys to the building to do as they wished.
Can this solution be applied to street grooming?
The street grooming cases are a case of the authorities being aware but actively ignoring or even complicit in the crimes because of their views of the victims overrode their statuary responsibility of care for the victims.
The family paedophile is the most difficult to route out as it is done behind closed doors and much like modern day slavery in Britain, without the victim speaking out it is very unlikely that the perpetrator will ever be found. These people are often devious and smart and exert control over their victims to the extent that they won't be spoken out against, and never risk being found in a compromising or incriminating situations.
The 4th case of the internet paedophile while difficult is something we can track down, although the powers to do this effectively would mean the general public giving up a very large amount of privacy to the establishment, police and security services. As we've seen elsewhere the establishment have abused these powers, for example councils using using anti-terror laws to spy for the most trivial cases, like which catchment areas parents actually lived, or even bin usage.
After this episode the establishment, and add in things like Mid Staffs, confidence in them is at a very low ebb, I don't think the current structure of our public institutions lends itself to be trusted, and scandal after scandal the public have every right to be highly critical and suspicious of any power grab. |
