Water is already nationalised in Scotland.  Works well.

I lived and worked through the 1970s as well. That was then - history.

From what you are saying maybe the Ford Cortina and CRT TV will return.

I would have thought that was obvious given my posts.
Although not water as it was never privatised in Scotland and remains state owned.

I actually think the reason why many of the 'privatised' services don't work so well is that they are still encumbered with 'public' culture and terms and conditions that they inherited.

If anyone thinks that nationalised travel and energy services will work better they are sadly deluded - if anything they will be a lot worse.  And to rub salt in the wounds the private companies will be laughing because they will have the big pay-offs the government had to make to take the services back.

Cheers,

Nigel

The thought is great...but that's it.
I work for a private company, every penny as accountability

Just one observation and prediction for the post election outcome.

If the Tories win a majority on 35% or so, I expect the Libdems to claim that isn't a mandate for a hard brexit.

Despite them apparently being content that a win for them on a similar margin would be sufficient to revoke article 50.

I'm looking forward to how Labour are going to frame their brexit policy now. They are finally going to have to clarify if they are for remain or leave. Simply saying they want a second referendum won't work, they have to say which way they would campaign in that.

Welcome to politics and campaigning where you can promise anything, and not be expected to deliver it.

So far, Johnson has promised;

- Extra 20,000 Police officers
- 40 ‘new’ hospitals
- More money for schools
- Reduce GP waiting times
- “Fix the crisis in social care”

And they’re even before he starts campaigning for the GE.

I'm not for nationalisation of utilities at the moment.

As for the 70s, I'd need to look at the circumstances of why nationalised industries were dragging the country down. I know there were fiscal issues around the American dollar that was affecting our industries, but will need to research this fully.
