If you get grief from both sides then you're probably doing a pretty damn good job of it. I agree with what @Dony said recently, you must have the patience of a saint and I don't blame you one bit if you feel worn down by it. For what it's worth I think most members appreciate the job you do, even if it doesn't always feel like that.
I don't think that extremes of any type are a good thing, so can't agree that going further right is the answer to the lunatic elements of the left. As someone with generally moderate views, I find it frustrating that moderate positions tend to get discounted as they aren't controversial enough to draw attention. Polarised opinions get all the attention, and I don't think that's a good thing, regardless of where on the political spectrum they come from. I know that's always been the case to some extent, but the use of the internet and in particular social media in contemporary culture has served to make it worse by serving up a cocktail of content that creates an echo chamber for people of similar opinions and makes it more and more difficult to find common ground across these groups. |
