Just saw an advert for one of those "collectable" magazines.

This one is marvel giving you the best stories over the last 30 years in a hardback collection for the bargain price on £9.99 a fortnight! Look like a total rip off to me and prob only worth a fiver at best!

That depends what they're giving you.  "The last 30 years" includes things like Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme, Fraction's Invincible Iron Man, Daredevil: Yellow, Winter Soldier, Civil War, Runaways, The Death of Captain America and Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, to name but a few.  Also, Marvel HC editions tend to start at £12, so if it's straight re-issues of existing volumes you could cherry-pick for a profit.

EDIT: http://www.graphicnovelcollection.com/

Starting off with Amazing Spider-Man: Coming Home by Straczynski and Romita - which is the arc where Aunt May discovers that Peter is Spider-Man, and which ends with the 9/11 memorial issue.  The next three issues are the Dark Phoenix Saga, Iron Man: Extremis (which sets up Fraction's run) and the first six issues of The Ultimates.  That's actually bloody good value for money.

Don't they normally vanish from shops after a couple of months and then only available if you order.

Would mean you'd have to get the entire collection

Anyone seen them out yet? I would take a walk up to Smiths but I am suffering with the lurgy, and would rather achieve something from my extended coughing fits induced by walking down the road and back.

One of my minions bought it for me today so I'll give my impressions once I've had a good look.

The GN is slightly larger than say a walking dead TPB and starts with a brief introduction and recap of events leading up to the story. That's followed by the story and about ten pages of the usual sketches and information at the end.

Quality wise the book seems to be well made and printed on good quality glossy paper, so as long as they choose good stories I won't have a problem paying the usual £9.99 price.

Yep, picked myself up a copy today from Smiths. No chance to look at it yet, but I did notice that it is confusingly numbered '21' on the spine, and the spine picture segment confirms this when checking the large cardboard cover its packaged in.

From a very quick guess based on size of the image, it looks like there be approx 70 issues?

Issue 2 is X-Men Dark Pheonix, which will be £6.99 (rrp £9.99) which is a bargin as this GN is £13 from Amazon:

X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga (New Printing) TPB: Amazon.co.uk: John Byrne, Chris Claremont: Books
