Same here, sometimes if I'm stuck behind some drivers on single carriageway a roads etc and I know there is a long stretch of them ahead I prefer to be in front of some drivers, even if that means I'm only gaining the one spot, plus sometimes when traffic gets moving at a better speed you can sometimes be stuck behind them because they're insistant on doing 50 down the 60 limit roads, yet you don't have the chance anymore to pass them.

Actually, you do raise a valid point here. But the sort of driver I refer to, I think we have all encountered before - you can just tell they have done it for any reason other than you being erratic! It's usually indicated by the aforementioned driver feeling the need to poke his/her car out towards the other side of the road every 5 seconds to see if there is a big enough gap to progress another 50 yards

As I have said before, high time that technology took over, and made most of these driving decisions for us.
Everyone moving along at optimal speed, with no opportunity for poor or selfish drivers to mess it up for everyone else.

Cars are just a means to get from A to B. Why this desire to drive them yourself? Wouldn't you prefer to be watching TV or reading a book?

Do you grow your own food, and slaughter your own animals? Or build your own house? No.

And you know what? Those in a hurry are always the ones that nearly crash or cause accidents, usually unaware, as they don't tend to look behind them very often.

You should never brag about brash and dangerous driving; it just reinforces what people think about 'bad' drivers. I wouldn't dream of beginning to speculate what brand car those people drive either ... shame, as it's this small handful of people that give certain brands a very bad reputation.

If I come up behind a line of traffic that is going significantly slower than I want to be going, and none of them want to overtake the leading vehicle, I'll quite happily overtake them, slotting in between the gaps if I can't make them all in one go.  Before I do, though, I'll have a good look from the offside of the road to make sure there are gaps.  I'll also happily "poke out" to the offside to confirm if a safe overtake is on, although I aim to do it smoothly, so as not to alarm the driver in front.

If I'm not in the mood for making progress, I'll happily join the back of the line of traffic, and leave a decent gap in front of me, to help facilitate anyone coming up behind me who does want to make progress.  I did exactly that 3 or 4 weeks ago - I could see the overtake of 3 or 4 cars was on, and there were gaps between them all, but I just wasn't in the mood.  I saw a battered old Audi coming up behind me, and made sure he had room to safely slot in front of me if he needed if he was going to overtake.  He did, but safely got past us all in one go and sped off.

I feel exactly the same way, I drive 1300  miles a week mostly on A roads for work and it`s the only way to get to spend at least a bit of time at home, some slow drivers take it really personal and get into a rage when they get overtaken,  I don`t understand the reasoning behind that, if they want to spend the next 100 miles looking at the back of a lorry carrying too much weight for its tortured engine struggling to hit 40 thats fine but why begrudge anyone who passes them, then passes the lorry at the next gap? it`s retarded. same with people who sit in the outside lane of a completely deserted 70mph motorway at 2am doing 50, then take about 5 minutes to move over when you catch up with them. surely someone must know whats going on inside their heads?

I have more of an issue with those drivers who know full well they aren't going to be able to make it past more than one car, but do so anyway and do it dangerously.

We've all done the overtake safely, but how many of you can honestly say that nipping in to gaps doesn't involve crossing a double white solid line? That's the thing that makes it dangerous. On my journey to work, the double white lines are there for a reason and people overtake on blind bends and have to swerve in front of you for the sake of 30 yards progress.

You can't really justify actions like that. Wait for the broken white line - again, they are broken for a reason.

I never overtake on double white solid lines, and certainly never on a blind bend - I value my life far too highly for that!
Absolutely - I agree that you shouldn't overtake when it's dangerous, and likewise other drivers shouldn't deliberately impede you when it's safe for you to overtake.

Exactly. My beef is with those who absolutely no regard for the rules of the road. We all overtake, and often at speeds we probably shouldn't sustain, but to cross double lines and whatnot is what annoys me, as I have to compensate for an idiot and if went into the back of him or her, the finger would point to me unless I had someone else to verify that person's actions.
