well i wouldnt think it a good idea to have a type of traffic travelling at a different speed based on the driver. its what causes alot of accidents in this country (same vehicle types travelling well below/well over the appropriate speed for the road)

Agreed. Drivers need to keep with the speed of the other traffic. Those that don't are driving recklessly.

I regularly see caravans and trailers being pulled along the M5 at speeds of 80-90mph. The speed limit for them on motorways is only 60mph.

Oh hell yeah, when I raced bikes I used to tow my caravan behind the rental vans we used.
We basically went as fast as the rental van would go.
Regularly 80-90mph.
Not so scary in a van, as the increased height makes the air go over the caravan and keeps them that bit more stable than behind a car.

But in your scenario, aren't you obliged to display the fact that you're a probation driver?
In which case, people will understand why you're doing 45mph.
Over here, we've no idea why people are driving slowly, so it's no wonder we just assume they're idiots.

FWIW, I think we should adopt the 'Irish way' for youngsters here too.
