You'd be very unlucky to get a ticket for doing 80-85, especially if there is plenty of other traffic about most of which will be going faster than you or at the same speed, I never heard of anyone ticketed or pulled for going 80. I believe they give a 10% margin as well, so if you're doing 80 on the clock, chances are you'll never get pulled for that.

To be honest, I don't sit there cruising at 90 mph as I suggested earlier on.... (but do hit it on occasions )

But as you suggest, I normally cruise at 80-85, which does seem the norm for the middle lane hogs...

I have a 'cardinal rule' on the motorway.
Never be the only person speeding.
If you're the only person speeding, sailing past everyone at a rate of knots, you're asking for it, regardless of your actual speed.
If you're merely part of a 'flow' of traffic, I've seen 100mph  being ignored by the coppers.
Provided everyone is driving safely/sensibly of course.

My fave scenario is someone going past me at a fast pace, then tucking in behind them.
I've regularly done hundreds of miles behind people like this.
Maybe they have 'snoopers', I neither know nor care!

I did this just once.  I tucked in a "convoy" of 5 cars on the M25 which luckily were heading my way up the M1, M6, and this allowed to me to drive from Amersham to Lytham St Annes, a total of 230 miles, in a minute under three hours, door-to-door

me 2. More importantly a minimum speed limit on motorway sliproads. Too often am I stuck behind some **** who merges at <50MPH.

I recently drove my Gran to buy a new fridge. Was driving around 70mph down the dual carriageway to which she screamed "Slow Down!" I pointed out the national speed limit sign and the fact that it meant the road was a 70mph limit road. "Oh so that's why I always get beeped by people when I'm driving 40MPH down here" she says

I always seem to get stuck behind a stream of cars stuck behind someone doing 35-40 mph in a 60mph road, and you cant get past them; or doing 40mph onto a Motorway from a sliproad, causing me to brake down perhaps 15-20 mph.............they are very dangerous.
And why is it when cars pass a speed camera on a 50mph road, they all brake to 35mph??? You can pass the bloody thing at 50mph, thats the speed on the road...it wont snap you........

Agree on both points, can't stand people who crawl down sliproads onto the motorway or crawl off them, both are dangerous.

As for the ones who feel the need to take 50mph cameras at 30... just don't go there *hits forehead*

In Northern Ireland for the first year after you pass your test the maximum speed limit is 45mph.

So going by this thread im an awful driver who is causing huge obstructions to traffic because I dont want to lose my license?
