I finally watched the pilot off of my DVR. As a person who had seen the entire BBC production, I was not impressed.
If a surgeon had transplanted a heart in the manner that ABC transplanted Episode 1, the patient would be dead and the surgeon facing manslaughter charges. I don't mind competent transplants of scripts but the key word is COMPETENT. No money in the budget for a scriptwriter or a reality checker? Or did ABC just not care? Just as an example of one howler: What kind of idiot doesn't know that Jeep was selling to the civilian market in 1973? "You own a military vehicle?" ????? If you were trying to portray the general knuckle-dragging of the typical police officer, spot on, but I doubt the NYC film authority or NYPD would be cooperating if you did so.
Sorry, ABC, you had your one shot and it was an EPIC FAIL. To paraphrase a tag line from the era, Life on Mars is "Must Miss TV".
