I think they wanted about £3K to do FTTP for me. Which is obviously not worth it.

FTTP contracts are very expensive at the moment as it’s designed mainly for businesses, however if FTTC is available then it should be plenty fast enough for most domestic use. Note your copper line has to be connected to the FTTC box by an engineer to be able to get the higher speeds, (Plus a different modem is required) and as you are only getting 14Mb I would say you are still on the old system, not FTTC. (Also if you move and the new owner doesn’t want FTTC you will be charged for the engineer to change it back)

I am definitely FTTC. Have been for some years. Speeds have probably dropped in the past year by a couple of Mbps. There was main road cable laying about a year ago. I asked the lads what they were doing and they said laying fibre. My connection box on the pole at my gate changed but the service if anything got worse. It’s a country road going nowhere fast except to a couple of villages a few miles away. It frustrates me that all that speed is waiting for me to connect to. 4K streaming potential could mean a new big FO tv.
I’ve just thought about that pole. I think the service comes underground and rises up the pole to my connection then back down again and into my property underground. I must look again in the morning.
Unless you have a massive drive there is no way you have FTTC with 14Mb, but if you have, then get back onto BT as that is way below acceptable limits, (What FTTC package do have (Up To 38, 52 or 76Mb) and it is BTs duty to get it fixed, not yours. (Something definitely sounds off here)
You also say that the main fibre cable was put in about a year ago (With a new box) therefore there is no way you were on FTTC before that, only ADSL2, (Plus you have to take out a new contract for FTTC) so give your ISP a call to see exactly what you are on, as I suspect it is still ADSL2. (You don’t get FTTC automatically just because they have installed a fibre cable in the road)

hmmm. I assure you I was FTTC with a local ISP selling Openreach product, then transferred to BT to what was called Infinity. Now the package is called

that is news to me.
Should be getting 40 mbps as a minimum on Infinity would ahve thought
This morning's result.13.4Mb/s Your Broadband speed is good.
That is exchange to router, it was unable to report Router to Device despite trying for a couple of minutes.
