I’m just guessing that’s down to two things, HTC launching their compatible 5G phone and Qualcomm getting the 5G router up to speed. The last Demo I saw wasn’t that great. But next year we could see a launch window.

Okay, own up. Who broke the forums the other day? It wasn't me!!! data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

2 hrs would be a disaster if they had built in batteries, but it is not a massive problem as they are AAx2

it takes 30 seconds to slip in a new set and you are on your way again, and as i mentioned in another thread (I should have just copy pasted it here!) it is good practice to take your headset off every few hrs anyway and just get a bit of air.
Also, that is continual use.... It may be different with the cosmos controllers due to that light, however it is rare that controllers are getting continual use.

A lot of us rifters have been spoiled somewhat by the insane battery life of CV1 touch, but 2 hrs would not be a show stopper for me personally.

huxley Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:46

It’s another backwards step imo.
Maybe it was a costing thing.

thesnowdog Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:47

Like Mike has said it isn't too much of a problem because you can hot swap the things pretty quickly so 4 hours charge isn't too bad.

Still poor battery life though but not a major problem.

The price is still a big no no for me though. If both the Index and the Cosmos were 200 quid/dollars cheaper they would be able to compete with the Rift S, or if they were the same price but had better specs. There's only 160 pees difference, certainly not enough difference to warrant that price of entry.

huxley Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:48

sorry chaps this is a big thing to me. I went from the Rift CV1 touch controllers which require a battery change on a weekly basis to the Knuckles which only last 4 - 5 hours max and that drove me up the wall.
The cosmos will let you play the intro to a game and then stop for you to change batteries, much like adds on TV. Its just a bit rubbish, and the controllers them selves look like an 80s chav has put a body kit on and couldn't be arsed to finish the job

Index and Cosmos compete with RiftS? People buying Index and Cosmos are not price sensitive but are more feature sensitive. We go back to the fact that RiftS has no IPD adjustment. Separate panels, built in headphones, higher res screens, Index has perfect tracking and higher FOV.

It doesn’t matter what price Oculus set for RiftS it’s feature locked for the next 3 years unless Lenovo start releasing add-ons which are all going to bump that price up towards Cosmos levels.

£400 for RiftS v £919 for Index spread over 3 years is a £166 a year difference. That’s not worth losing out on Knuckles or perfect tracking imo.

huxley Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:50

£166 a year doesn't cover the irritation of reduced battery life and controllers that are substandard.
the market is becoming fragmented with half attempts on all sides.
