I’m sure Qualcomm are aware of that.

Been reading a lot of the review comments and I think this hits the nail on the head.

"HTC and Vive will probably fade in to obscurity after this, as the Valve Index is generally considered the true successor to the Vive. No Vive owner is going to 'upgrade' to this when they can just buy the Index headset and controllers. I guess it depends on price; if they can sell this for $100 less than a Rift S, then maybe it will be popular."

Its a shame the HTC touch controllers don't support lighthouse track as I would consider getting another Index if they did.

I think they'll sell a good few if they can get the price down to £100/$100 more expensive than the Rift S, but at £700 - just like the Valve Index - it's overpriced. There'll be a nice sales spike at launch and during the launch window but once the launch window ends then sales will slow down.

The Rift S will probably end up outselling the two of them added together next year unless they cut their prices.

But even if they do, Oculus must be making around $100/£100 profit on each unit sold since it launched and by the time it has been out and manufactured for a year they'll be able to cut the price down even further.

They could cut the cost right now to $299/£299 and still break even, and cut it down again 1 year after it's launched to $249/£249.

I was hoping that both Valve and HTC would release their headsets at a decent price but honestly didn't expect it tbh. GabeN loves his doughnuts too much and HTC has been run by idiots for YEARS data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Cosmos is not garnering a lot of favour in the office this morning. The biggest question is who is this for? It’s a big chunk of cash for essentiallya slight bump up from a RiftS with some nice headphones.

thesnowdog Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:42

And almost twice the price too.

Atmos Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:42

But Cosmos has built in IPD, higher res screens and great audio. For some that will be worth paying £300 more.

huxley Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:43

Maybe, we will have to wait for actual reviews to roll in.

thesnowdog Publish time 2-12-2019 05:22:44

Just like with the Index the resolution REALLY isn't THAT much higher than the Rift S - 1600p vs 1440p.

I agree about the audio in particular but is it £300 better? Probably not.

For the price of an Index you can get 2.3 Rift Ss or a Rift S and a Quest plus have money left over to buy 120 quids worth of games. For the price of a Cosmos you can get a Rift S and three quarters of a Quest or a Rift S and 300 quids worth of games.

I thought the optional plug in compute for cosmos had been canned and it is just a pcvr HMD?..

In principle for the specs I don't think the price is too bad - not amazing but ok (not bothered about the lighthous module it compromises too much, if I wanted that I would get an index)
