Smurfin, firstly your build is absolutely awesome!

Just one question though what's the power consumption like?

MarkE19 Publish time 2-12-2019 04:33:30

Smurf posted the power usage in post #119 in part 1 of this thread - http://www.avforums.com/forums/networking-nas/1347547-smurfs-monster-40tb-unraid-nas-build-4.html#post13362176

Anybody have a recommendation for a motherboard that will give me the full compliment of 20 hard drives? Only, the one I have at the minute only offers a maximum of 13 hard drives. The one Smurfy Boy used is ancient and hard to come by now

I think you're going to need sata cards for that many so don't worry too much about how many sata ports the mobo has.

are your hdd x-drive caddies just resting ontop of each other or are they screwed in?

Dan201 Publish time 2-12-2019 04:33:32

Mine r screwed in.

Smurfin Publish time 2-12-2019 04:33:33

I removed every third tab, so the cages are resting on tabs, but I also screwed them in (only needed one screw as they are in quite tight anyway).

A quick and probably stupid question about the beta. How do you identify a disks assignment letter in beta 14? I precleared my disks using 4.7, I had to click devices and check the disk letter from a drop down menu. I can't see such a menu in the beta.

Is it a new server with unassigned drives?

great read the 2 threads have been.i have a 2tb nas drive but i'm thinking about a server and the hp microserver looks good.however, what are the pro's and con's on building one with all the hot swap bays over the little hp server with 4 cold swaps?is it flexibility that building a tower gives over the micro.space in my home is limited to, although looking to move soon.
