Upgrading GPU Help

Here's my current specs...
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G CPU with Radeon Vega RX Graphics
Motherboard: Gigabyte A320 M-H
Ram: 2 x 8GB of HyperX Fury DDR4
SSD/HDD: SSD 120GB, HDD 1TB
GPU: Radeon Vega RX Graphics
PSU: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 500W 80 Plus
Chassis: Fractal Design
OS: Linux Ubuntu 64Bit

I want to know which DDR GPU to buy for it to replace the internal one ?
I'm guessing it's DDR4 but I have looked everywhere on the internet and cannot find an answer, I've asked Gigabyte who make the Mobo and they just say it can be any " Gigabyte VGA " GPUs

I don't really understand the question.

The only graphics cards that use DDR type memory are the low end ones, to take advantage of the cheaper DDR compared to the higher bandwidth GDDR that most graphics cards use.

Assuming your current VEGA-branded graphics is the Vega 8 integrated into the CPU then it's already using the DDR4 system memory, albeit shared with the CPU, so a DDR4 graphics card isn't going to give you much more memory bandwidth than you have now.

In terms of compatibility your motherboard will take any PCI-Express graphics card, which is essentially all of them. Your power supply only has a single power connector though, so that will limit you to cards that require less than 2 power connectors.

Generally the only other compatibility factor is physically fitting the card into the case and you've only given a brand and not a model so I can't tell there.

And Linux support of course.

Basically the question is. Will any DDR do the job ? OR will there be compatibility issues

techquest Publish time 2-12-2019 02:59:16

As endless suggests your question is confusing and any PCI-E card will fit your MB, it doesn't matter what memory format the card is using.

Compatibility with what? Your question doesn't make sense, maybe you could elaborate and let us know what your trying to achieve.

Do you meant system RAM ?

If you look on the mobo website it has a memory compatibility list but in general most DDR4 RAM modules should work. Your CPU is raven ridge model and their test sheet shows they went up to DDR4 2666 with that but it should also work with DDR4 3200.

You can also go on the Crucial site and they also have a compatibility tool you can filter to get the correct type of RAM, they list up to DDR4 3200 as well.

Some GPUs are DDR3, some are DDR4 etc thats what I meant

techquest Publish time 2-12-2019 02:59:18

But that doesn't matter as it is part of the GPU, your OS will just see the card you put into the PCI-E slot, it will not care what type of DDR the card uses, it only cares that the card is PCI-E compatable.

So currently I have a AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 GPU
How does this compare to others out on the market ?
