Since I last posted in here 2 years back there have been two titles which have made me stand back in amazement.

The first is the Witcher 3. Just a superbly realised game that is not only enormous, it's possibly the best looking game I have ever seen - especially on PC. The visuals - yet to be bettered in my opinion - are simply jaw dropping and the gameplay and missions constantly surprise.

The second game is Zelda - Breath of the Wild. I thought Horizon Zero Dawn was very good but this title literally blew me away. A true open world game that gives you the tools for the adventures ahead right from the start. How you approach each area and mission is entirely up to you - there are no obstacles that can prevent you going anywhere, and nowhere is off limits. This is a true open world game without the usual funnelling almost all open world games employ. The scope of this game is simply magnificent and as I've said in the Zelda thread, not only is it the best Zelda game which is high praise indeed, it could potentially be the best game of all time. It's an absolute triumph.

The one I'm currently playing, just finished Episode 3 of Life is Strange, prefer this to the Telltale episodic games

Two oldish games have impressed me the most in recent times.

Total War: Warhammer - I've been a pretty big fan of the Total War series for a long time. Was unsure how a Warhammer version would go since it was such a drastically different concept compared to the previous editions. But it was amazing! Each race played so differently and there was such an impressive range of different and fun units. I loved all the events that happened in the campaign. Also, a big bonus was how smoothly it ran on my not so amazing PC.

Don't Starve Together - I had heard good things about this but I didn't feel the urge to give it a go until recently. Being a survival game, I expected a fun but short lasting game, with a lack of depth and simply being bored of dying and having to start ALL over again, being the main drawbacks. What I found, was an extremely fun and polished game which had an insane amount of depth. Hugely different randomised maps meant new tactics in each game. Every time I died, I was eager to jump back into a new game and use the new found experience and knowledge to survive that bit longer. I completely lost track of time playing this.

Zero Time Dilemma to finish off the Zero Escape trilogy. It's totally bonkers.

Technically, Xenoblade on 3DS is a marvel. How it's crammed in I can't imagine. Good game mechanics too!
