No sainsburys. It's mainly down to eating real meat (chicken breasts, proper lean mince beef etc) from butchers at both lunch and dinner. When I used to eat oven chips with something every night of the week it was half that. I eat very well and healthy. Oh and I weight train 4 days a week on top of my physical job in construction. So need plenty of decent calories. Happy to spend the money for a decent diet. I feel a million times better for it. I don't have any 'vices' so spending more money on decent 'real' food is important to me data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I don't understand the incredulity and (in one case derision) regarding those who spend a lot of money on food.I'm sure you can survive on lentels and roadkill for <£20 a week, but if their budget allows, why shouldn't people eat top of the range stuff everyday. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Some people on here have obscenely expensive AV kit or cars, what's wrong with a gourmet lifestyle if that's how they decide to spent their hard earned money.

Spend about £80 a week on food and household items for 2 people (£40 each).

And you missed off expensive watches, but at least we know LGS avoids those threads now!

umm no. maybe you are just eating ready meals data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

if you eat proper food like chicken breast(£4), Steak, Fish(cod , sprats, musscles, prawns, crab etc aint cheap) with rice or potatoes or vegetables(veg is not cheap) and have afters like an apple or an orange(again not cheap) plus a drink(say a fruit juice which costs u over a pount for a little carton) and u can easily see how spending over £50 per person is a realistic thing.

Tonight i am going to have somemussels cooked in ginger, garlic, onions and cherry tomatoes data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

that meal alone is worth close to a tenner data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Last night i had beef boiled in a soup type of dish u sometimes eat at the chinese restaurant with potatoes, onions, gabbages etc . Again that cost money so it really depends what you eat and of course how much.

Yea if i buy ready meals for dinners and have one apple for breakfest and drink tap water, i can easily get by spending just £25-£30

No ready meals for me either, i mainly eat pasta based dishes with the odd curry.

Usually spend between 35 and 40 per week.

I usually cook a few portions at a time though for freezing which helps reduce costs.

If I buy a block of cheese for say a lasagna I'll use what i don't use for my sarnies at work that week.

£150-£250 a month at most (usually average just under £160) and that is for 2 adults and 4 cats. Even with 2 more mouths to feed I could not spend what some of you spend, is it the finest range and best most expensive meats you buy? My hubby is a carnivore and every meal contains meat and I would never touch the own brand cheap stuff and still I thought £250 was a lot, wow..

£700some of you must have money to burn lol, wish I was that rich...

And before anyone says anything, no we do not eat ready meals, main reason is that I can not stand the taste of most of them...

Edited: changed figures above after checking past amounts I spent that I had to hand

Simon, apologies I never meant to offend. Think I got up the wrong side of the bed after a heavy(hot) few days and fired off a few "rants". I think I was just a bit shocked at how much money is spent by some but as you say I wasn't accounting for the clothes and presents you mentioned.

I guess you are right your choice is your choice and people can spend their money how they like. Must admit I didn't add my entertainment budget as I thought the OP was just after personal supermarket shop (I don't entertain a lot but I have been getting a few BBQ's in this year while we can but that's not usual and I only worked on my records April till April.

Again apologies if I offended.

We must spend £280 a week on groceries and household stuff, there's only 3 of us, seriously data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I'd say £50 was on booze like a crate of beer and a few good bottles of wine

I know things have gone up but it's still crazy money when I look at what other people spend. The Mrs will easily spend £130 in "the big shop" on a Thursday then top ups and fresh stuff every day. It's not like we haven't had words over it either, I even went once or twice and didn't save much
