Hello mate,

I've been doing my routine for a while now and really enjoying it and seeing some good results in both the look of my body and increase in strength.

I've maxed out on my bar just recently as I train at home and due to the weight plates available could fit 100kg on the bar. This was more than heavy enough for most exercises. I can squat this but it does still feel really heavy. However with my deadlift it feels pretty good and I certainly feels like I've got a bit more in the tank.

I've now got a bigger and better bar and also some bigger plates so can now fit 140kg on the bar which shouldkeep me going a few more months.

Tomorrow is my back day which will involve deadlifting.

My question is (horrah!)

Should I go to 105kg x 8 (3 sets) and increase the weight by 5kg each week or should I maybe try 10/20kg extra tomorrow instead until I get to a stage where the last two or 3 reps are a real struggle?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks
Mark

Are you training for size or strength? Are you doing full or partial deadlifts?

Thanks for the quick reply mate.

Training for size and doing full deadlifts.

Depending on your technique you may or may not hit your back that much doing deadlifts. If you are training for size you are better off doing partials. In that situation you would have to see what weight you can manage as it will likely be less than for full deadlifts.

When training for size you do not need to add weight each week, its all about tension and the way you do it.You will of course need to add weight in order to progress, but it may be every fortnight etc and not as frequently, or as big a jump as with strength training.

Wardy, what are your thoughts on "Fast Exercise" Intermittent fasting and exercise ยป The Fast Diet
I'm a 5-10 large framed sedentary 105kg mud runner.

Thanks Wardy,

I can certainly feel it in my back the next day after doing a back session. I will add a little more weight and concentrate on keeping the tension during the lift.

Cheers mate.

Intermediate fasting works for some people so it's worth giving a try, training fasted is not a good idea though.

Down to 187 now. Shopping for a weights bench and getting the pull up bar installed this week.

I'll be back looking for tips on what to do once I have a bench etc.
