That's certainly the way I for one voted and the outlook I have currently.

Marshall Mike Publish time 26-11-2019 03:15:34

Completely agree. If we were to vote to leave I would go along with the wishes of the majority. Which is more than can be said about the losing side from the last referendum. I just hope we aren't duped again with stories of the NHS being privatised or inflated oil revenue figures. I suppose this time round it would be how much better off we will be in Europe.

How can Scotland REMAIN in the EU? They aren't in it, are they?

Marshall Mike Publish time 26-11-2019 03:15:35

Yes. As part of the UK.

Saldawop Publish time 26-11-2019 03:15:36

And how did the United Kingdom vote?

Marshall Mike Publish time 26-11-2019 03:15:37

You're preaching to the choir mate. I'm talking about how the SNP will try and use remaining in the EU as leverage for independence.

It disapoints me that Scotland agreed and participated in the referendum and when the result wasn't what they wanted then Nicola wants to be independent

Maybe a veto or serious protest before the referendum would have been the better thing to do knowing it could go either way

As first minister she should react to the opinion of the country. If the majority want to be in the EU then she probably has to make the case for retaining that membership by whatever means she can. Whether that be another referendum we'll see. I do think there will be some direct conversations with the EU on Scotland's options before any decision is made.

Cocksure Publish time 26-11-2019 03:15:40

That's not true or fair, she tried to make it so as each of the 4 countries had to vote for out, not for the UK majority. She also stated that she would likely call another referendum if Scotland said stay and the rest say no.

Jonstone Publish time 26-11-2019 03:15:41

As first minister of Scotland she should have the common sense to actually check what the options are before giving press conferences. She obviously should be looking out for the best interests of Scotland, not trying to use every opportunity to gain independence.

Most sensible people can see that a UK exit from the EU has a massive impact on the viability of an independent Scotland in the short to medium term. That joining the EU as an independent nation would mean adopting the euro and running a financial policy that is at odds with SNP policy in order to satisfy the joining criteria.

Too many politicians these days (on all sides) speak before they think, or put idealism ahead of realism.
