They can hold a referendum (Scottish Government can table a bill in the Scottish Parliament) and if the UK Government refuses to recognise it they could declare themselves independent unilaterally. As long as the Yes vote and turnout were high enough and the likes of the US and EU recognise Scotland as an independent nation, there is bugger all we could do about it. The Union is perhaps fatally wounded, might not happen soon but the risk is there.

I think that any expenditure on that is not allowed for in the agreement setting up the Scottish Parliament.
I could be wrong though.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Why do only the Scots get a vote on independence? Shouldn't we all get a vote as we are allpart of aUK . Didn't they just have a vote on the EU reforendum because we are all part of a UK ?

Very , they have Westminster MPs do they not and are part or the UK ! They as part of the UK are now calling foul because Scotland voted to remain and now want indy 2 as a result even though THEY are still part of the UK and should respect a democratic vote !

A democratic vote for Scotland independence would only be fair and democratic if all the UK voted on it. Would it not ?

Surely the obstacle for an independent Scotland's accession to the EU is, as always, Spain?

Trying to form an alliance with Gibraltar to remain in the EU is also not in Spain's interests. They would rather see a more vulnerable Gibraltar, outside the EU, one that they would be more likely to take control of.

Gibraltar would slot in halfway down the list of Scotland's most populated towns and cities. It doesn't even have it's own MEP, it's included as part of South West England.Maybe Nicola is after Cornwall as well?
