It was Heseltine & his annual 900k I had in mind.

Two reasons, it's the lull before Politicians and Journalists return to the Westminster village so lots of attention on Adonis and secondly it's to heap pressure on May and Corbyn in different ways.

He did resign before he was pushed, he may have opened a can of worms for Chris Grayling over a certain railway franchise (that deserves it's own thread). But most importantly the Withdrawal bill, will soon be going before the Lords. Adonis will likely want to be free of any involvement in Government so he can be as outspoken as he likes in the Lords.

It could be that or it could be something else entirely. Wait and see what happens in the Lords over the Withdrawal bill. I can see the Lords and Commons clashing over it, either leading to a constitutional crisis or the Parliament Acts being invoked. Worst case ? The Queen has to get involved to bash heads together.

He's a member of the House of Lords. He'll be voting on the Withdrawal Bill when that goes before the Lords. All he's done is resign from an infrastructure committee, no big loss to him.

I doubt it very much, what you have to keep in mind is that the Tory Party is about even stevens when it comes to Leavers and Remainers. The Remainers in the Tory party may put UKIP voters off. Also Farage could come back as UKIP Leader at any moment, depends on how bored he gets and if he wants to get on the Westminster Gravy Train. Given the European Parliament will soon be a thing of the past for him, aside from pension payments.

Depends if people are paying attention or enjoying the Holidays.
------

As for Twitter ? You'll find equally rabid Brexiteers and Remainers on there. I've got into arguments with both camps. It's easy to avoid the drama llama on twitter, you merely don't engage with certain twitter users. Mute or Block, move on.

Politics moves in mysterious ways, but it moves quickly. So much has come to light since my posts which are now yesterdays news. Adonis is yesterday's news even though his pronouncements are still dribbling through the media.

Looking ahead and moving on - 2018 should hopefully see the completion of a treaty which will take the UK out of the EU.

IronGiant Publish time 25-11-2019 21:44:11

Surely he can only get on that if he gets elected as an MP somewhere?

EarthRod Publish time 25-11-2019 21:44:12

Nigel has never managed to become a member of the House, tried seven times and failed seven times. He didn't stand in Theresa's 2017 snap general election - that would have been eight failures if he had!

Sad really because he's a good off-the-cuff and eloquent orator.

I know how quickly politics is moving, Corbyn for example has said he's forging a new centre ground in Politics. If that's true or not ? We'll find out in due course. I do however think it's wrong to assume that UKIP voters will flock to the Tories. It's a rag tag group of voters, some former Tory voters, some Labour and the rest from other parties. You have to look at where those votes are and crucially how many of those votes could swing an election in marginal seats. If we had PR instead of First Past the Post, those 4 million votes would have a bigger impact.

Hopefully we'll get the ball rolling on the ratification process of a deal before the end of 2018. The deal is not done until that process has taken place. So yes we could get a great deal, only to see it fail because a memberstate decides they don't like it or the European Parliament rejects it.

Well that stands to reason and why he's tried in successive General Elections to win a seat, aside from 2017.

Well we shall see in May, if the Tories cheated to victory against Nigel Farage, by breaking electoral rules on spending -
Election fraud trial date set for Tory MP

Well maybe they'll give him a peerage, he'll have ample to opportunity to orate in the Lords. If he's not propping up one of the bars in the Palace of Westminster.

Corby moving to the centre lol.

No room there as the Tories are already there.

Every time one of there remotely right wing policies gets mooted, it’s shot down by the monster left wing section of society.

I've never hidden my contempt for the man, but that aside, he's never going to receive a peerage nor other honour (like the knighthood he was desperate for)
-just too controversial a figure

IronGiant Publish time 25-11-2019 21:44:15

Stranger things have happened, but I can't see how it could be justified.

EarthRod Publish time 25-11-2019 21:44:16

If Boris should ever become Prime Minister I can quite see it on the cards that Nigel might be invited to become a senior advisor to the government, given a knighthood and finally end up as a peer of the realm.
