Not true.

You only pay the excess when you claim for the repairs to your car, or have the excess deducted if your car is a write off, and you claim for it.

If the other driver is claiming, then you may as well.

Let them write off the car, deduct your excess and you get the remainder. You'll literalyl get naff all scrapping it.

It's times like this where paying insurance to a reputable company makes all the difference. What is cheap at quote stage, can be cheap in service.
