That's very true.
The only time we would get lies like the driving range on a course would be Augusta National lol. Not like any of us are likely to ever play there data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Downhill lies the worst and most important for ball position

I was about to say that a lot of the American courses look far too manicured for proper golf - they seem to be tailor made for producing very low scores. Courses I used to play on had some fairways that weren't as good as their rough in America is!

I started by going thorney fend which is q cheap as chips course flat and not groomed as much as the lakes course across the road and found in summer it was in better nick that the links courses near me (I live in Peterborough) but didn't half help me prepare for Crap lies haha.
Augusta I was looking at going the masters this year but week long tickets were like $6750.00. Will go us open its only $950 lol.
Funny you guys mention the groomed courses. My teacher Gary Casey used to play the national tour and said you notice how the players play for the middle of the green. I mentioned that's what I do and he said aim just short of the green as the local courses have good run whereas tournaments courses have no run due to the chemicals they use to keep Tue grass green causing the ball to practically stop when it lands unless there's hills sloped etc!

Lol, some of the fairways in the States are would make fabulous winter greens here.
Nick Faldo is my golfing hero and obviously long time finished. But sincerely wish he had joined the seniors tour. Nevermind. Don't really have a favourite player nowadays. It's great to see Tiger coming back. Can't wait for the Masters in a couple of weeks. Lee Westwood i feel is the next Monty - no majors, mostly because of luck against in the majors. Would like to see Luke Donald win a biggie - get the feeling with him though if he doesnt win one soon he may go the way of Monty/Westwood

God data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 The last couple of times I've been I've had large baskets and haven't hit a single clean shot out of the lot of them. It's all gone wrong again and I'm feeling like I've had enough. I'm no further forward than I was a year ago.
I can't do that proper hip movement thing.
I can't stop myself from swinging too far back on the backswing.
The list goes on.

Don't get too disheartened, golf is an extremely frustrating game at times.....
If you are struggling with making a good contact, you might want to try this drill I read about elsewhere (I haven't personally tried it so I can't comment about how effective it is, but I have heard a number of people say it does help)
Using something like your 8i or 9i, practice hitting balls with your feet together. This means that you can only take a limited swing otherwise you will lose your balance. Once you feel comfortable, start moving your feet apart slightly and increasing your swing until you get back to your normal stance with a full swing but always try to ensure you keep your balance during the swing
Like I said, I have never tried it so I don't know how well it works, but some people practice this a lot and use it to warm up at the beginning of a range session
Another thing I used to be guilty of was rushing through hitting balls without an objective, rather than taking my time and focusing on something I wanted to achieve, so now I take my time at the range and go through a pre-shot routine picking my target etc
My current focus means I usually only take the following clubs to the range - SW, PW, 9i, 8i, 3W and then rotate the longer irons
This is allowing me to work on my scoring irons from around 150yds and in, along with the 3W for letting me practice off the tee and then the odd longer iron just to work on ensuring I am still striking the ball well

And like the CSSDoctor said with the feet together with a short iron hitting balls... Also doing the same but also with rolled up towel under the armpits will help keep the upper body working in harmony with the lower body/legs

Well I don't agree with much on TV's but those two drills are about the best in golf.

Played for over 30 years. Lowest I ever got down to was 4 but up to 6 now and struggling to play to that.
I might have to try those drills out. Over the years I must have hit thousands of balls with my feet together as my problem has always been a over active leg action.
You play much?
