Fantastic day out yesterday.
It was a member and guest day that my boss had won in a charity auction - he couldn't go so asked me to take a couple of clients with me instead.
Arrived thru the massive gates that welcome you to the The Renaissance Club. Parked the car outside the temporary clubhouse and was greeted by one of the assistant pro's who lift my clubs and bags from the boot and straight onto a couple of electric trolleys.
He advised us where the lockers rooms where and where to go for breakfast. The temporary clubhouse was like nothing i've seen before - -amazing. Great breakfast - anything you could think of from full english, muffins, as much coffee as you could drink!
Anyway - after a good feed - lets head to the range! Fully stocked with pro v's - it was like something from the pro tour. Lovely pyramids of balls and the abaliay to just walk up and hit away down the 400 yard range!
A few practise putts on the largest green I've seen and we then got strarted at the 1st. Team event with best 2 stableford scores counting on each hole. Each team also had a yellow ball and that rotated between the players on each hole. If that ball was one of the 2 best scores then you got double points for that. If you lose it - that was it - no more double points.
Of course - in front of the crowd at the 1st tee - it was me who had to hit the yellow ball (awful tee shot - down the 2nd fairway - but hit a beauty of a 5 iron to the middle of the green for the 2nd shot and managed a good 2 putts for par)
Course was superb, green like lightning and very very undulating - very tricky. That's where Davie, our forecaddie came in - he was great - tell us the lines to putt on, where to hit from the fairway, all the yardages, what club to hit - a great laugh as well.
After a good team front nine - refreshements at the 10th tee - again amazing spread of food and drinks to take with you.
A poor start to the back nine ultimately cost us but the rest of the course was stunning - great views over the North Berwick coastline.
Finished 6th out of 22 teams - we managed to keep the yellow ball all the way to the end.
Another fantastic 3 course buffet lunch/dinner was had - all whilst the clubs and shoes where getting cleaned and placed back in the boot of the car.
From start to finish the staff were superb - courteous, helpful and wonderfully attentive. All in - a stunning day out and I can only hope to return again some day. I did swap numbers with one of the assitant pro's who said he should be able to get us on during the week sometime hopefully!
