2&1 victory last night in the stutt cup (knockout comp) - into last 16 now.

With my changed grip, I can honestly say that I've never hit so many good iron shots in a single round. 7/8/9/pw was superb tonight - really really good.

Driver - that's a different matter - when it was hit straight and well, it was miles beyond anything I've ever hit before (hit the greenside bunker from the tee at our 8th hole, measured with skycaddie at 305 yards!), Also a monster drive at our SI 1 hole (420 yards uphill) hit driver, wedge to about 8 ft!!!

However - far to many wild shots, mainly duck hooks which are part of the stronger right hand grip and kind of to be expected. I've excited that my irons are improving since the changes and can see the improvements, just need to straighten up the driver now!

I going through the typical problem of not pulling everything together at the same time. Drive well, chip bad. Putt well, irons bad, etc. One day it will come together, one day..

420 yard hole, not a 420 yard driver!

I hit driver and wedge (from 124 if I remember correct from the skycaddie)

Basically I've strengthened my right hand grip, before my right hand was to "weak", i.e to far over the top of the club. But with my out to in swing path (which I also trying hard to correct) it tended to cause a large cut/slice.

With a stronger grip, I have lost the slice/cut but found a pull/snap hook. This was to be expected with the out to in swing path that I still have. However when I get the swing path right, i.e straight down the line, the stronger right hand grip creates a straighter ball flight but with a touch of draw which seems to be where the extra 10/15 yards on the driver is coming from compared with my old cut shot.

The  guy I played did say it was like watch some kind of golfing freak show - in the politest terms!!!

something similar to what i have done recently mate, although i have moved my left hand to a more neutral position (moved slightly round to the right)

i have a tendency to come over the top (mainly with driver) which is coming from my hurling days. my change has done away with my slice but like yourself my bad shot is now a straight pull or worse a snap hook

Got my first big competition on Saturday on the Old Course at St Andrews, it's our Spring Meet and I'm really looking forward to it as I'm hitting the ball well at the moment (queue a 89!)

The weather forecast looks craps though

Ouch, but good stuff breaking 40 front nine. I had a terrible time in the 9 hole league on Thursday night, but put my last tee shot within a foot to win a free dinner

I managed to get my first cut of the season after our Spring Meet on the Old Course going from 6.8 to 5.8

I shot a gross 76  4 nett 69 but it could have been so much better, I was  2 on the 17th tee the Road Hole only to put a ball OB into the Jiggy Inn beer garden so ended with a 6 and a par up the last. I thought I'd done all the hard work as the front 9 was the tougher into a 2-3 club wind and I was out in level.

Still it was good enough for 8th place out of 210 playing and I've qualified for a match play comp for the top 32.
