Can anyone tell me how I make my sd card the default storage please?

I use mine for editing gopro videos and the tablets storage quickly file up. I've formatted the card but it only seems to offer me "portable storage" for it and I think I need it to be internal.

Ultimately  any new data I put on the tablet, I'm wanting it stored on the card rather than the tablets internal memory

Thanks

What you're talking about is adoptable storage, which is a handy function of Android that permanently integrates your SD card to the overall storage of the device.

The bad news is that several manufacturers disable this. Samsung is one of them.

To me, SD card expansion is useless unless the adoptable storage feature is enabled (and works well). Otherwise, users are stuck in the same situation as yourself.

Android tablets and devices need to place the importance of higher onboard storage, at least as a premium option. This is something I've been crying out for years.

I thought, and please correct me if I'm wrong here
You never REALLY wanted to use a memory card for actual real app/use memory as it was far far slower than proper internal hard-wired memory.
A memory card was best just used as like a external drive to store data on. Photo's, Music, Docs etc.
And leave the apps on the main memory.

Has this changed, as that's what I always thought was the suggested case?

Thanks guys

I'm not really into looking to use it for running apps, or even storing apps. In this instance I just want my imported gopro videos to store on it, 4k footage is huge and soon folks my internal storage

I agree its fairly pointless having a big sd card if it's not just unrestricted additional storage.

I keep hearing how nobody buys android tablets anymore, they don't do themselves any favours with things like this.

I'm sure my earlier android tablets could do it. All the Google info I found shows you used to be able to just set the card as internal or portable. I think a more recent android update removed it again.

You're correct with that statement. I remember my first smartphone (HTC Desire) slowed way down when I tried to shift some apps onto the SD card.

For my need, I wouldn't lose any sleep if the SD card was removed, as it is primarily used for the reasons you just stated. I've enough on the cloud and have a decent monthly data allowance to access my files whenever I need.

I may be being dumb here as I'm not sure what you are wanting to do.
But are you saying you can't store (or move) Pic's, Video etc onto the memory card in a Samsung Device?
Or that apps on the device won't see any data on a memory card?
And this is unique to Samsung?

It's not me with the issue, but Fat Tony says that he cannot store certain go pro files on his sd expansion. Subsequently they end up being stored internally.

The problem is people buy a £100 Android tablet and expect it to be like a £500 iPad. Buy cheap, buy twice. If you want a lot of apps on a tablet and for it to be used for everything, then pay for a decent one in the first place.

Plenty of Android tablets have a lot of internal storage if you pay the money.
