You are making g the assumption that it NEEDS to be replaced yet. Of course some want a new on but the biggest gripe held against vr has been price of entry. Oculus have nailed this by both bringing cost of entry of hight end pc vr down thanks to ASW on the pc, and the full vr pack at £399. They are releasing entry level and mid range products which are stand alone. A VR hmd for all pockets.
Would some here buy a cv2? Maybe but we are a small group. I know you are happy to blow oculus money by them releasing a generation 1.5 hmd but maybe if it were your business and your cash you would be less happy to bet the farm on an interim upgrade of an already niche product.
Oculus were late to the party with motion controls. Valve/HTC beat them by a good 9 months... But all but the most blinkered would accept touch blows the wands out of the water arguably forcing an upgrade to the knuckles. which may come this year.
Will pimax be better than rift.. sure! But I suspect it may be a similar thing again if oculus launch a better developed more consumer polished hmd in (hopefully early) 2019.
You are excited about pimax and it does look good but it's still early days yet.
that said... i *may* end up upgrading sooner, because, like you i am a VR fanboy, and happy to throw more money than i probably should at it. This does not mean that chucking out baby steps upgrades is the business savvy way to promote VR however. |
