I seem to have followed the same path as others on here - very impressed with the original Ring Doorbell and picked up a Doorbell Pro while in the states. Getting it to work is a little tricky though as it needs more power. So far I have wired it to the existing Friedland Chime which has an 8v transformer built in - this works fine (no doorbell ring but got a chime for this) however I need to reboot it each day by turning off and on the lighting circuit at the fuse box. Bit of a pain so need to find a better solution.
I didn't have the red cable in my Doorbell Pro (perhaps down to the fact I purchased in the States) but Ring kindly sent me one. Tried to wire this in but, so far, can't get it to work with the Friedland - will spend some more time on this as I am probably not connecting it correctly. Can I ask though which transformers are you all using? I was a little reluctant to use one as mine will be wall mounted as opposed to near the fuse box so I want to disguise it. Should be Ok with this (will try to use the Doorbell plastic case) I want to make sure I get the right transformer. 12v should be fine and think this fits better with UK regs - don't want too much power going off to the doorbell!
In use the Doorbell Pro is superb - brilliant video quality. |
