Hello, Craig here. I've just joined so I can participate in
this discussion about the Yamaha '1500. I have read with
interest every single post in the thread. I hope some of you guys are still reading.
Several people have mentionoed having trouble establishing communication between the '1500 and their computer via the RS-232 connection. There is one other, different thread about the '1500 where several people have evidently been successful at getting them to talk to each other, so it must be possible.
I, however, have tried and tried but have never gotten anything but the "Communication with the main unit could not be established" message.
Can anyone please offer me any advice on how to get this
function up-and-running? Is there any difference between what someone called a "null modem" cable and any other RS-232, 9-pin, D-connector cable? Also, because the Yamaha and the PC have the same connector on the back, am I introducing any problem with the male-to-female adaptor I am attaching to the cable?
I am fortunate enought to have an older PC that actually has an RS-232, or "serial" port on the back, so I don't have to use an RS-232 -to- USB converting cable.
I am running Windows XP-Home. I assume I have the current version of Yamaha's software, which I downloaded this summer (2008).
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated! I started
entering song titles for the first few albums I recorded, but
then decided to wait until I get the PC communication working.
On that note, I can offer one small bit of advice for anyone
who is using the software successfully; you shouldn't need to type everything in. I have used Amazon (or any other
appropriate site) to get the track listings, and
copied-and-pasted the titles into a simple text file (.txt) set up in the format required by the Yamaha software.
Sincerely,
Craig |
