This was an interesting read. Some rather poor showings from members though..
I'll be getting a minidsp soon, so I'm getting some reading in before it arrives. I know nothing of room correction except the rug and soft furnishings trick. I look at the posted graphs and go duhhhhhh?!?!
Buy Toole's book and much is revealed. Definitely helped me get the best bang for my limited bucks when buying my new amp/speakers/sub this year. Don't let the book's price give sticker shock, there is enough accurate, tested info to keep all but the most seasoned professional busy tweaking for a long while.
This video by Floyd Toole is the best I've ever watched about hifi and sound
Some of myths it debunks and advice it gives are: -
How speaker appearance affects audio perceptions and reviewsHow closely measured performance matches perceived sound qualityHow worthless most speak specifications areHow poor the performance is of many highly regarded, expensive speakersHow bad audio reviewers are in blind listening tests
