Just look at those massive cooling solutions on the Tis. Looks like a hybrid solution will be required to achieve acceptable temps.

I was wondering the same thing. I had the EVGA Ultra on preorder yesterday until I noticed the size of the thing (3 slots wide!). Ordered the Founders Edition instead from nVidia - I just don't like the gaudy look of any of the partner cards, especially the EVGA ones this time.

I'm hoping nVidia's cooling will be...sufficient. My order only ships in October, so I have a month to look at reviews and change my mind.

If your gaming is mostly at the AAA end of releases then I think you will be delighted with a purchase of these cards. Cinematic lighting effects and ray tracing are an integral part of narrative atmosphere and will almost certainly be adopted by every major developer.

I really am not so sure.

hardware physX was (is?) incredible but because it was locked to NV only cards, and not available for consoles or AMD users it largely floundered.

all this RTX stuff will be locked to nvidia (AMD have supported their own version of it for some time which worked on normal cores AFAIK and it never took off).

even IF it is amazing, and even IF AMD cards were capable of supporting it technically, they will not be allowed to (just like physx technically runs on amd cards.

PHYSX is fundamentally about delivering more realistic physics and particle effects. Niche in the realm of video games in my opinion. Lighting and shadows however are integral to the atmosphere of any huge narrative game. If I was a development house, adopting new lighting tools in game coding is definitely an easier sell. I've yet to hear it in the news media but I suspect this is also going to be integral in the adoption of HDR in the game world.

If the gaming industry is realistic in creating movie like playable experiences then this is a tool you can't really afford to ignore.

i hope you are correct...... I would hate to see it fizzle out because it was locked to 1 vendor.

btw physx was also about eyecandy too tho right?

eg compare batman arkham games or borderlands 2.

All that smoke & fog and cool material hanging around really added to the ambience in batman... and the blood and explosions in BL2.
