So apparently Eurogamer have seen documentation that confirms that the PS4k is a real thing and it has greater than 2x the power of the standard version.

Revealed: Sony's plan for PlayStation 4K - codename Neo

CPU

Base PS4        Eight Jaguar cores clocked at 1.6GHz
PS4K Neo        Eight Jaguar cores clocked at 2.1GHz

Boost        1.3x

GPU

Base PS4        18 Radeon GCN compute units at 800MHz
PS4K Neo        36 'improved' GCN compute units at 911MHz

Boost        2.3x FLOPs

Memory

Base PS4        8GB GDDR5 at 176GB/s
PS4K Neo        8GB GDDR5 at 218GB/s

Boost        24% more bandwidth, 512MB more useable memory

Certainly interesting reading. I would have thought they would have needed much more RAM than they're looking at given the resolution.

It's weird isn't it.

The GPU jump is huge but the CPU and memory bandwidth haven't increased proportionally. I was hoping for a better than Jaguar CPU for the device.

Perhaps Sony are still hoping that a lot more devs go along with the GPU Compute side of things that takes a lot of the legwork away from the CPU.  Hasn't been used much so far, but on the games it has, it really does show what can be done.

I remember reading that it was possible they'd include a better CPU too, but the cost would go up.

Well, I'm definitely interested in one. I just hope they go all out with a better CPU too

Well I feel conned. Ah well, not fussed about 4K right now anyways, but it would have been nice to have spent £350 on something that was future proofed.

PS4 is future proofed, they've confirmed all PS4 games will run on the existing model. Be nice to have a 3 year hardware cycle as the norm, with the base launch model supporting the latest titles for six years.

Sony should offer them on pay monthly like phones, it's amazing just how many people don't realise they've actually paid like £800 over the course of their contract.

These people generally wear tracksuits and watch the X Factor - I don't think they're the demographic Sony are aiming for with this 4K console.

I don't see many titles running at native 4k on that spec, well apart from simple puzzlers or 2D indie games.

We may however see some games running at upscaled 1440p or 1620p at 30hz. Hopefully each title will have an option to opt for 60hz at a lower resolution too?

If they stick in a 3 layer, UHD Disk drive then I'm in.

It's interesting. I think I'll stick with my standard PS4 and use my PC for 4k gaming.
