Strength

2RM Thruster

Heard alot of things about Thrusters - all of them bad. Damn they are hard. Anyway - new to me today so managed 50kg 2RM

WOD1

5 Min AMRAP

40kg Thrusters
Pull ups or Ring Rows

2,2 then 4,4 then 6,6 etc

WOD2

5 Min AMRAP

Assault Bike
Dumbell Snatch (22,5kg for me)

2cals,2 snatch, 4cal, 4 snatch etc

So basically partner goes for WOD1 for 5 mins, then I go WOD1, Then partner straight into WOD2 then me WOD 2.......Then repeat again starting where you finished the last time!!!!

Horrible. Really struggled with the Thrusters but some good encouragement from partner etc. Finished with 12 Thrusters and 10 ring rows in my 2 x WOD1 and 14cals and 14 dumb bell snatch in WOD2. Shoulders are gubbed now.

I actually don't mind wall balls at all, I have a good rhythm and breathing technique with them so don't find them too bad.  Box jumps on the other hand...

Agree on burpees.  Those bar facing burpees we did last night were absolute killers as you had to burpee far enough away from the bar so your face didn't hit it, then a two footed jump over the bar, turn and repeat.  Quads were on fire, especially on the back of thrusters!

Has anyone ready any good CrissFit related books they'd recommend?  I just finished reading Cracking the CrossFit Open by Oliver Norris.  Good read and breaks down all of the most used lifts and movements from the history of the Open and has some good info on training, diet, supplements, etc.

I'm hoping to be of a reasonable standard to be able to enter by the time the open 2018 comes around (absolutely anybody can enter and there are scaled versions) and this book gives a good insight into the most probable lifts and movements that will come up so gives an idea on what to focus your practise attention on.

I've just started Chasing Excellence by Ben Bergeron so will report back when I've read some more.

I don't know if you have mis-typed something there but I'm not following sorry?  Are you saying pistols and swimming help with muscle ups and handstand walks?

no lol muscle ups and handstand walking have been in the previous games and are a vital skill to have, as well as pistols. Obviously swimming is swimming and i'm sh*t at it anyway, its something to consider practicing

Ah ok, I'm with you now.  Handstand Walks don't actually feature that often in the Open.  Here's the most common movements for anyone interested:
