Not sure, what is the expected volume for a double? I programmed this myself for a certain cup I have. It's maybe 150ml.

It's 35-40ml for a single so a double is 70-80ml.

OK so looks like I am making a lungo. Bloody tasty though.

The Wiki says 60ml of water is used (Espresso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) for a double normale espresso. The Home Barista chart I posted previously (Brewing ratios for espresso beverages - Home-Barista.com) says between 40 and 73ml gross volume including crema.

150ml is more like a caffe crema. "A significantly longer shot is the caffè crema, which is longer than a lungo, ranging in size from 120–240 ml (4–8 US fl oz), and brewed in the same way, with a coarser grind."

Right, time for another. I'm going to measure this one.

The problem with more sizable drinks is running the water through an Espresso sized grind can lead to over extraction and a sh*tty taste. But if it tastes good, perhaps your grind size is ideal for it.

I'm just using Illy medium roast espresso (pre-ground). So far, it's lovely. I'm going to measure in a minute to see how much is actually coming out.

Over extraction is when the water is in contact with the grinds for too long therefore extracting too much from the ground coffee, so don't tamp too tightly.

Yes I have my machine do me a double lungo, it does a double grind and uses 14g of coffee, wakes me up a treat in the morning

OK, so I was getting 140ml of coffee from the double espresso button.
Trying it now with around 90ml. Will report back shortly.

So, that was a bit stronger, a bit tastier, but I had a smaller drink. Hmm.
