I like the Planalto that Pact do, but I find them expensive to be honest and i'm impecunious or tight .

Has Bean do a Brazilian Perfetio, it is a blend but it's chocolatey and nutty it's gorgeous and I think iirc they roast to order.

@KyleS1 Read this on another site. Can "we" do this on our machines?

"You determine the grind by experimentation. Holding tamp pressure constant, it should take between about 22 to 30 seconds to extract a double. Select a grind in the middle of the grinders espresso range. In this case, you should probably start at 5. If it takes more than about 30 seconds, try making the grind one click more coarse, and try again. If it takes less than about 22 seconds, make the grind click finer, and try again. When you find the proper grind for that bag of beans, it will take between about 22 to 30 seconds to draw a double."

That's more about the grinder and tamping pressure than the machine  I think. So all in the prep.

I just thought the 22 to 30 seconds was about how long it takes the water to filter through the coffee? Isn't our machine timed? Or does it still take different times to filter through?

The Delonghi Dedica will pump out a pre defined amount of water - how long it all takes to get in your cup is determined by the hole the pressurized basket together with the coarseness of the coffee grind. Up to a point it wont make a lot of difference in time as it's a pressurized basket which cancels out the effect very coarse grinds have (the advantage of a pressurized basket is that you don't necessarily need a grinder capable of very fine output to get an okay coffee). But once you get fine enough, it will slow down the flow of water and too fine will choke the machine altogether.

Does anyone know why Gaggia espresso machines are so hard to buy nowadays?

Ha! No. I was just wondering. Before I bought my DeLonghi I was after a Gaggia Classic as a mate has one and loves it. I just couldn't find one (well, I did but from a company I'd never heard of or used). John Lewis and Curry's don't sell them at all. I just wondered why? Thought they might of gone bust or something.

House of Fraser still sell them. I bought my old Gaggia Coffee there years ago.
