I think a woman on the radio hit the nail on the head the other day.
She said that she was told back in the 80s by the Labour Women to go to University, go for equality, get good qualifications and work hard to move up the workplace ladder, put in the hours and you will see the rewards.
She said I did all that and have always voted labour, but now it seems that once you get there you are vilified by the left, it took her 40 years to get a job where she is earning enough to no longer be struggling and now she hears labour say "We are coming after the rich, anyone who earns £70k a year we will tax harder."
She said that is her, she earns £71k a year, takes home £3900 a month, but she lives in London where her mortgage is £2600 a month, so is only left with £1300 a month for bills, food, savings.
And that is the problem with going for an earning bracket, £70k a year in Yorkshire might be a lot, in London it is not, especially if you are at the age where one of you is working and the other looking after the children.
Like she said on the radio, I did everything Labour told me to do and after 40 years I got there, and once you are there they hate you! |
