Theoretically Scotland going independent and then joining the EU would position them well to get a much bigger chunk of the financial services industry as companies start to offshore London operations once the legal implications of Brexit start to kick in. Of course there are loads of complications around timing, membership vetoes etc, but it would not surprise me if someone's not doing some feasibility analysis around it. If Sturgeon could pull the rug from under London as the dominant financial centre and replace it with Glasgow or Edinburgh (or even start the process), she'd go down in history. |
