It's the reality TV Autocracy replacing democracy.
Clinton won the popular vote, but lost out in the electoral college. There have been arguments in the US about reforming the electoral college for donkeys years now. It's way too complex and headache inducing to go into.
Because usually in a US Presidential Election, the candidate who wins carries the popular vote and the Electoral College. Then you have elections like this one, where one candidate wins the popular vote and the other wins the Electoral College and thus the Whitehouse. Which creates anger, especially in the US given how polarised it's become.
Not properly reflecting the majority of voters wishes in an election due to a rigged system is subverting democracy. Also fuels apathy, which further erodes participation in democracy. |
