My fundamental argument is not about any specific election, be it on the EU, Brexit or the US election of Trump.
It is about the usage of common phrases, generalisation and simplications in political discourse and rhetoric that end up being taken for granted or at face value rather than what they really are.
I am using that argument to highlight the misuse or erroneous belief that some people have in making assertions about the US Election of Trump as President.
The winner of an election is simply the winner of an election.
If the election is the process for determining who is in charge, then they are in charge.
It does not automatically follow that is what a majority of people wanted or supported.
It can represent a majority of people, but it rarely does and certainly doesn't represent the diverse strengths of feeling or desires of any individuals or groups on the myriad of issues grouped up into a simple, single A or B choice. |
