As you don't get why that petition was started you aren't doing too well yourself.

You've yet again come to a completely incorrect assumption, well done.

Nothing changes the fact that a petition for something already happening is entirely pointless.

You don't seem to understand the purpose of a petition.

Would have been better worded as a petition to reaffirm the invitation

The rule is, petitions are meaningless, except when they aren't.

I understand the purpose of a petition.

I also understood why the second petition was actually started from the off.

It isn't pointless. It's a counter to the first petition. Imagine if the second petition didn't exist. It would just seem the UK was a nation of upset snowflakes. You're welcome.

So the deal was to take mainly Muslim refugees that had been rejected but held by Australia.  An Obama deal.
Not surprised Trump responded by calling it a dumb deal.

It makes for more uncomfortable audience time with the Queen on Wednesdays, good dose of public opinion won't go unnoticed, especially as Trump has been rather uncouth towards her female in laws and he is having melt down over talking to Charles..

The Queen has met so many leaders over the years, and many with dubious credentials. I am sure she will take it in her stride and may have a few wise words for the new President.

As for being too soon, well remember, Mrs May was meeting Trump remarkably soon after he became president. Did the BBC go to the trouble to show how long it took the rest of our Prime ministers to meet a new President?

What will be uncomfortable for the nation, is protest groups getting hysterical .

A modest proposal from a non-Brit. Would it be a suitable compromise to have a state visit acknowledge Mr Trump's proud Scots heritage, specifically placing it in Tong, the Isle of Lewis. Nobody would expect a 90-year old to make that journey, so the Duke of Rothesay will no doubt be delighted to fill in.
