It will not be funded by tax payers money but by private contributions. A Canadian consortium has already pledged 10 million as it will be not only be representative of he UK but the Commonwealth also. It is also NOT for the sole use of her Madge but will act as a training vessel for sea cadets and as a maritime research vessel when not needed for state occasions . In a time of austerity this is actually a very good project that ticks plenty of boxes, provided numerous opportunities and will cost the UK public nothing at all............. seems like win win to me TBH..!

The royal family cost us about 80p each week. I don't think we could get them any cheaper. The yacht wouldn't be for her. It would be run by the Royal Navy and be a Royal Navy ship that she would happen to be on.

The ship visits foreign countries and drums up support for the UK and improves our prestige abroad. For the same reason we are also spending £12 BILLION to have people jumping into a sand pit for two weeks. It's to get our name around the world. We would send the yacht to a foreign country, the local dignitaries get wined and dined on a yacht with royals, they then put business the UK's way. Not many other countries could offer this and in a few years might pay for itself.

It wouldn't be the Queen's yacht. It would be the nation's in the same way that Buckingham Palace, the crown jewels and everything else like this is the nations. The Queen has her own personal wealth and is separate from this.

I also remember that back in 1997 Labour after scrapping the Royal Yacht there was then talk of Blair having his own equivalent of an Air Force One jet…

Queen or no queen we should have the yacht because getting business our way is more important now than ever before. Note also LGS that the Queen hasn't asked for it. Get your facts right.

Oh and funnily enough not every one in this country likes to run it down like you. Some people have a lot of pride in this country and didn't come from countries with tin pot dictators. If you understand that you'd understand why national symbols were important.

Actually, the most idiotic suggestion of the year so far was to hand out Kindles to the unemployed to alleviate their boredom... Can't remember who suggested that though.

To be honest, it's very strange seeing Cameron on easy jet...  On one hand it's like hey that's cool and down to earth and all and on the other it's like, puh-lease someone get this country a gulfstream....  Or something....
