It's amazing how fast the various organisations (NHS, Southampton Hospital, CPS, Police, Government) are back-pedalling blaming the others for the problem.

Southampton Hospital are saying they support the operation.
The police chiefs are saying that the parents should be with the child.
The government are saying that they will do everything they can to ensure that the best treatment is received.
The CPS dropped the case.
The police are saying that they need to look carefully at the information that the hospital gave them.

They are all spouting complete BS - a total U-turn to their positions a couple of days ago.

Nothing to do with a 170,000 name petition I wonder?

I dread to think how much their combined idiocy has cost the tax payer.

The parents would be completely within their right to sue.  I doubt they will though because throughout the farce they have demonstrated more decency than all the other organisations combined.

Cheers,

Nigel

My wife works in this field at the moment, we often have conversations, God forbid, about our own children and whether we would subject them to the treatment process which in a lot of cases just prolongs the life of the child and listening daily to the brutal processes that these young kids go thru, I can categorically state there is no way on earth I could do that to my children...
Paediatric cancer treatment is barbaric, side effects include damage to growth, fertility, and endocrine functions, immunological suppression, damage cognitive functions, heart damage, lung damage, infertility, chronic hepatitis, secondary cancer and death..
It's like a state sponsored experiment on the parents children and in this case someone somewhere has made a serious error of judgement and exacerbated an already awful situation for the parents...

What's really sad is some posters have used this story to pedal their usual anti religious bigotry...

Would the U turn have happened without the family being so aware of Social media and Youtube?
I think not.
Its sad to say, but I think they would still be in prison and extradition would have been successful.
Police and hospital would be patting themselves on the back for a successful manhunt.

Wild and unwarranted speculation. I also take exception to your comment regarding the hospital.

The hospital, doctors and nurses were doing what they thought was best for the child.
The police were under the impression laws had been broken and were doing their job.

Personally I would not have it any other way. Mistakes were made and lessons learnt regarding the power of the media and the internet.

What lessons have been learnt by the NHS staff, I can only begin to imagine the huge coverup now underway..

The family were very smart in its use of social media.

If you were to speculate, do you think this would have turned out the same way without that initial You Tube video?

I don't watch YouTube videos.

If you were to speculate (and I'm not saying that you do) would you consider the possibility this whole business is a charade and a set-up?

The internet video was shown on TV news. It was then that we knew the boy was safe- and led to the public outrage. So from last Saturday to today the father and wife were held in prison. Even though everyone knew the boy was safe and the motives of the parents.

If we hadn't have known this, i.e. no video message by the father would Cameron, Clegg have made statements in the face of public opinion? Would the charges have been dropped today?

I doubt it, because the Police /Social Services /Hospital could have dropped them on Saturday. But they didn't.
Nothing much has changed since Saturday except the swell of public opinion.

Presume 'the swell of public opinion' and 'outrage' are those who voice their opinion in the social media and who sign petitions etc. Not forgetting of course the outpourings of the media. Oh, this moral outrage!

Lets reflect for a moment on the hundreds of people with cancer in hospitals all over the country. They are being looked after and treated by professional hospital specialists and hospital general staff. Professionals working hard doing their job. Personally, I will stand up and counted to be on their side.

You can take the social media 'swell of public opinion' and 'outrage' and stuff it.
