Yes. Remember the child was in danger of being taken into care had they left him in the UK.
Indeed that happened several days later when they were in Spain and the parents had to show they had a good treatment plan in Prague before the Care services in UK would release the child and lift the warrant.

I wasn't there, have no idea what the professional people had to say. Therefore I cannot comment.

My gut feeling is still with the doctors in Southampton and not with internet searches or the doctors in Prague who are quite happy to be paid by the NHS. Also, I agree the parents should not have been arrested, but bear in mind at that time the doctors thought the child was in serious danger of dying.

I agree we have to disagree on this one. But I wish the child all the best.

Alan what is more important what an NHS doctor says or the outcome for the patient.
You seem to be deferring to the doctor when his advice may or may not be the best, are you saying that it is a legal requirement to do as they say?

Clearly what is important is the outcome for the patient.  As far as the authorities knew, they took the child to Spain to die. Once they knew that there was a treatment plan, they called off the wolves.

The whole thing was very badly handled, by the NHS, the Law enforcement authorities , the parents and the media.  (Not in any particular order).

The idea that entering a hospital can get you handcuffed, imprisoned and your children taken off you has to be a worry.  If you do 'escape' then you'll be hunted down by wolves with international arrest warrants and imprisoned in the country you are found, is quite worrying.

Or am I missing something?

The question posed by the thread title....

Accept that the 'state knows best for your child' . If you disagree the child can be removed.
Or
The child is the responsibility of the parents and they should decide, like they do during all stages of growing up, what is best for their children. That includes putting trust in the doctor- but not ownership.

In the natural world, just try taking an offspring from its mother and they will fight to the death.

As Allan has stated, he believes the former, and we have to respect that, because that seems to be how the law is at the moment.

It is an Idealogical matter. Its just a matter which a ideology you believe is correct.
To my mind it is a no brainer, your children are yours!
