A big fat NO from me to the original question. Until their pension scheme is seriously reformed then they cannot justify inflation busting rises.
There aren't many industries where you can be encouraged to retire early get your pay off and then come back to your old job and start accruing pension benefits again.  Ridiculous state if affairs and to have the tax payer funding these enormous final salary or career ave salary schemes is immensely expensive.
Sorry rant over and my missus is in the nhs and she can't believe the practises that go on with the pension benefits. They are quite literally looked upon as free money. Only it's not free the tax payer stumps up.
So no pension reform then no pay reform.

Thanks. From what you are saying it sounds to be a very attractive job so recruitment and retaining staff should be a piece of cake.

As I've pointed out a couple of times, we have record numbers of doctors and nurses. This directly contradicts the assertion that pay is a problem leading to people leaving. If there were any truth to that, we'd have less doctors and nurses employed.

But we are operating in an environment of very low unemployment, so some level of staff turnover is to be expected.

So if we have less nurses per patient there is a problem, right?

It doesn't work like that though does it - the number of staff should always be on the up because the population is growing.

Say you've got a hospital treating 100 people with 20 nurses and 5 doctors.

Fast-forward 5 years and the same hospital is treating 200 people with 25 nurses and 7 doctors.

Have we got record numbers of Doctors and Nurses? Yes. Is it an improving situation? No.

I'm not sure what that link is directly to; the post numbers don't seem to correspond...As such I can't comment. But I'm sure you are not the only one displaying unacceptable etiquette...I'm happy to admit it myself that calling you a plonker for your behaviour isn't acceptable etiquette either....It was definitely worth it though and an accurate reflection as to what I think based upon what you allow us to think....

Good etiquette on a discussion forum would be to actually participate in the discussion.

I believe he was referring to Marv being rude to him, which is a separate issue really.
