So if you wouldn't set it then why use it as an example; that was rather weird...


Touche We can be in agreement on that point as I clearly hadn't make the link between deserving it when the performance is there clearly enough for you to understand that it is different than deserving it for doing their job.

As I asked, who is going to pay for "my" increase to pay for this increase?

And to be very clear, I put "my" like that as it isn't about me...It is about all of those who have to pay for this, and keep paying for this...I hear you about the other motivations and the reasons for doing this. And I don't disagree with that for most; that doesn't mean we can keep doing this though and just keep increasing it. It becomes a meaningless action because within 12 months it isn't enough again...What do you propose we do? Just keep throwing more money at it?

It's a choice of:-

a) because it was for arguments sake example ... clearly worked
b) I can't remember why because my NHS meds aren't helping my memory

It's a vicious cycle, not something that is easily broken in a global economy.  Anybody got any genius ideas on how to solve it ?

I'd argue (and so would many) that the fact they can influence any changes made to the grade band policy and procedures means that they do have a level of control.

If Justine Greening announced today that the rungs in current grade bands were to be removed so that each band had an upper and lower salary and staff position within that range is no longer linked to time-served but done on performance instead, do you think the Unions would say "okay, we have ZERO control so we may as well sit back and let it happen"

Salary hasn't been linked to time served in years. In teaching it's all 100% linked to performance. I think you need to read up on this. Iirc it changed in 2013 or so.

So the letter and acknowledgement that you wife got doesn't count?

You haven't answered my question though which is important when you add a "value" to "talent".

Are the salary differences between higher and lower paid staff in the private sector the same as the public sector?

Because private schools achieve better outcomes than state schools, perhaps? Remind what percentage of state school pupils attend Oxbridge?
