I would hazard a guess that of those 1100, a significant number are voting for the BNP as a protest rather than any agreement with their policies.

Indeed. Do not underestimate facebook. People tend to jump on the bandwagon on there numerous times.

Indeed it is all rather sad.

to people being turned away. if they were there a reasonable time before 10pm then they shouldnt be turned away. sounds like an unexpected huge turnout so there should be some leeway.

I did hear there was a lock-in in one place where everyone who was there before 10 got locked in the hall till they could get their vote

It's becoming clear that there were 3 different responses:

1 - Lock the doors at 10:00pm sharp
2 - Keep the doors open for an extra 30 minutes or so
3 - Have a 'lock in' (see above)

Expect shenanigans.

Dimbleby quoted as saying the voting fiasco was "third world politics" and I quite agree.  It's an absolute disgrace,  you would expect this in Iran but not here.   There could be some serious repercussions over this if the vote is extremely close which it looks likely to be.

My local polling station was leisurely. So much so that the chap in the booth before me left his keys behind. I moved it aside to fill in my two slips

What?  On the Thames, or sipping champagne?
