I only ever went there on school trips, returning with bangers and flick knives......That said a previous girlfriend was from just south of Paris and I spent time there not too long ago and I know her parents thoughts on the mess in France....

That video is a year old and since then the camps were cleared, people moved, barriers completed(after the people who they were to stop had gone).

In other words, even if that was an accurate description of the events and situation in Calais, it is not reflective of the situation 1 year on after action was taken.

Care needs to be taken when using articles, videos and other sources of information not only to validate the accuracy, but also it's relevance and reflection of current events.

I would give you a funny for that except I don't do funnies unless it makes me laugh. I always reply. Unfortunately this is no laughing matter. Although you did get an agree tick, which is surprising!

So while you are correct that the video is old, and that should have been made clear, the rest of your post tries to trash it as an irrelevance, misleading and inaccurate. Let's be honest- you were portraying this post as another anti- immigrant video and should be ignored?

Imagine if you were a Calais resident. Or that woman was your mother who was forced out of her house- and is living somewhere else today. It is no consolation to say 'that's old news'. She has been relocated. It was only last October that demolition began, by the way.

The situation in 2017 is far from normal and the people is Calais are still under threat. The jungle was bulldozed but the migrants are still coming, day by day. But now they are living in the railway station, on the streets and anywhere they can, in Calais.

Is it ?

Do you think people like that lady have decided to put their faith back in the politicians that they felt had abandoned them so long ?

Do you think they have no worries about it all quietly building back up again ?

DO you think that now the camps have been cleared that 'all has been forgiven ?'.

After all, I have read in the media there are apparently people quietly moving back into the camps in a low key manner.

Do you really think that when politicians lose the trust of their electorate that it can be repaired in the space of a year ?

The electoral effects of the kind of events that the lady from Calais described will likely reverberate for many years to come.

from moiyou're reading something between the lines that I don't see and wouldn't agree with ... my agree tick was on the fact it just isn't contemporaneous to the election, and a year is a bloody long time in politics - regardless of the situation going further one way or the other

Well it looks like Fillon is going to continue his fight. There was speculation he might pull out but after a long and rambling speech, just now, he has defended his wife's remuneration and will continue. Many see him as the establishment and not so trust worthy after these revelations.

First round 23rd April. If no majority, it goes to second round, 7th May, between the top two candidates.

Anyone see the After Brexit: Battle for Europe documentary by Katya Adler last night?
Surprisingly pessimistic reporting on the EU from the BBC I thought. And there is a floor 5.5 in one of the EU buildings in Brussels
