The women in cabinet jobs thing makes me chuckle, manly for two reasons:
1. Jobs should be assigned on merit. It is admirable to guarantee half of the Shadow Cabinet positions for women, but beyond that the best people should be in the roles most suited to them. In the case of the Shadow Cabinet, two of the top jobs have gone to people elected in to those posts, two have gone to politicians vastly more experienced than any women on the list and the last has gone to a man who is instrumental to the whole Corbynite plan.
2. There are 16 women in the Shadow Cabinet. The press are in uproar because there aren't any women in the 'top jobs'. There are 9 women in the Cabinet. Seemingly this is okay because one of them has a 'top job'. |
