It's because a huge element of the push to remain in the UK in the original Indyref was about how difficult it would be for Scotland to join the EU in the event of voting for independence (it was incidentally a matter gleefully flagged repeatedly by many of this forum's Brexit supporters).
It absolutely influenced many people in how they chose to vote in the independence vote. Many Scots felt cheated when after voting to remain in the UK at the rUK's behest, two years later the UK pulled the rug from under them by voting for them to leave the EU. Given such a significant change in the political landscape, lots of people now believe that those who voted against independence previously for the above reasons may now vote for it, because why the hell not, it can't be any worse than Brexit. |
